Today, I have been inserting the dongle after the system boots. I had to jump through some hoops to update the BIOS since the updater was a Windows binary and this machine does not have Windows on it. My testing yesterday was booting with the USB dongle inserted so that networking config could be applied during boot, similarly to how I intend to run the system. I brought it up, did some pings, even some file transfers.
